EC Marketing Standards for hazelnuts shall apply from January 1st, 2003. Comments on these standards will be provided in due time. The official standards text can be obtained from our server.

For the time being, standards, especially those issued by UN-ECE and Codex Alimentarius, must not be applied, because there is no formal implementation for use in the EC.

Consumer packages from third countries being originally labelled to categories or standards are tolerated for sales in Germany as far as the produce meets the standards' criteria.

Nuts in consumer packages must bear a "best before" date in German language ("Mindestens haltbar bis Ende ... " followed by month and year).

The other labelling items should preferably be in German; other languages may be used as far as the meaning of the words can be "easily understood by the customer".
